I love capturing photos of plants, food and non-living things because I always believe, although they are not human, but they do have their own expression and emotion yet to be read and appreciated.

1st Day in Siem Reap

I always wanted to go to Siem Reap, no why, maybe I heard of this place from a lot of people before or maybe Angkor Wat is there, it was once nominated as one of the 7 wonders of the world, and that is the nearest 7-wonder to me, nearest = I can afford.
Of course, talking about budget trip, budget = cheap and good (平、靓、正), we took AirAsia. Unfortunately, AirAsia has only one flight to Cambodia daily, and the flight departs to Siem Reap at 7am... let's calculate what time we need to get up just to be punctual to check in. Yes, I need to get up at 3.30am, 4.30am departed to LCCT, 5.30am checked in... a bit crazy right? But the lucky part was, we spent 6 days (11th - 16th Nov) there, so, whole trip actually quite relaxing... we don't need to rush.
Oh, forgot to tell, we = Stephanie, her friend (Kim Yen) and me. Cambodia is 1 hour behind Malaysia, we touched ground at 8am, Cambodia time (UTC+7). 1st day was a free and easy trip, after checked in to our hotel (FYI, most hotels provide pick up service from airport to hotel), we decided to explore the city by ourselves, because we have the city map (FYI, map can be printed from internet).
In the afternoon, after lunch, we decided to go to a silk farm, silk is one of the famous souvenir to bring home. Because we have no idea where's the silk farm, so, we hired a tuk-tuk (a local taxi, but it's a semi-covered cart pull by motorcycle, refer to picture below). And my advice is, unless you know that the place that you want to go is not very far away, or you better hire a car. The silk farm is not as near as we thought, and since, it's a semi-covered cart, can you imagine how bumpy was that, and we inhaled dust all the way there (FYI, Siem Reap is very dusty).
In the silk farm, there are a lot of guides who speak different languages, we asked for an English speaking guide to bring us around. He was quite good in telling us the life cycle of a silk worm, the processes to make a silk from cocoon, just I think I was a little bit tired, I didn't catch much from what he said. Bringing the tourists to shop is always the last agenda. But, all the silk goods selling in the silk farm are freaking expensive, so, we didn't get anything there. But after that, we did shop around in town after dinner. The silks that we bought are much cheaper than the stuffs in silk farm, probably the stuffs in silk farm are better silk.
Basically, that's our 1st day in Siem Reap. Next day onward, we will have a tour guide to bring us around for 3 days.

The new international airport
Heard it was launched in 2005

The hotel that we stayed
Auberge Mont Royal D' Angkor

A hall in the lobby

The swimming pool in the hotel
nice huh?

Street child everywhere... where's her parents?

We wonder what was this, but the hawker can't speak English, so, we still don't know what's wrapping inside.

BBQ banana
We didn't try, scared of diarrhea later

Our 1st lunch in Siem Reap
Amok is their local dish, it's a must try. I like the taste too!

Stephanie in our tuk-tuk

This is how the Cambodian ride motorcycle
No helmet, lady passenger seated side way

Silk worm eating mulberry leaves
yer, very geli la...

Silk worms grow until certain age and they stop eating and producing cocoon covering up themselves

Silk worm become butterfly and left behind the cocoon
Life cycle of a silk worm = 47 days
1 cocoon can produce 400m silk string

Beautiful flower planted in the cocoonery and silk factory

A nice chill out place after silk shopping
